I am a novice and I just had a pool built and got ready for use. I live in a
Mediterranean climate and we can swim from the beginning of May to the end of
October. What should I do with the pool during the winter months? Frost is rare
and, when it occurs, only mild in our climate.
Members’ advice would be very much appreciated.
Best regards

It can depend a bit on what you have for your filtration system, but all
you really need to do is just keep it clean. You can probably get away
with only running the pump a few hours a day, but test the water weekly
and keep it in good balance.
Minor frost is negligible, but if a prolonged freeze is in the forecast
you might want to keep the pump on during that time. Your plumbing
should be fine unless there is a hard freeze. Otherwise “winterizing”
in a mild climate is about as simple as you can get.

I’m in Mississippi, with a climate probably not much different than yours. The
first couple of years, I covered the pool, but since then I just keep it open,
pumps running most of the time, and keep the chemistry balanced. I decided
cleaning leaves out as they fell was easier than cleaning the mess that resulted
from removing the cover. If the temperature drops into the low 30s (F) or
below, I make sure I run the pumps continuously.
