Black Oily residue in the skimmer

August 7th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Hi all, Ray wrote the following in a thread about stabilizer. I have
the oily residue in the skimmer of my AG pool. Could you explain what
may have caused it?
Also, have you been trying to use any of the “Non-Chlorinated
Shock”? That will bring out the true readings of your Chlorine levels
as well as a bit of your PH, and Alkalinity That may help as well.
It takes off the Chlorine oxidized material (removal of the burn off
from Chlorine and shock treatments). It’s usually the little oily
foam/black or gray film residual found in your skimmer nd which can be
the black water line on your pool liner.

I see this all the time. The black oily residue in the skimmer is a
“scum line”. it comes from all of the lotions, sun screens, sweat and
other bodily fluids that float into the pool. the skimmer is a good
place for it to go. but probably will start at the water/tile line
next. I have found a good product that helps remove it. it is called
pool perfect by natural chemistry, it is a natural enzyme that eats oils
    and it works very well.
