I have an older gunnite / plaster pool that I’ve been doing underwater
plaster patches on for 4 years now and have determined it’s time to
look into resurfacing it. I know there are two approaches to removing
the old plaster: sandblasting or chipping it off with some sort of
power chisel device. I’m a pretty handy guy (service my pumps, changed
impellars, installed new guts to my pool valet pop-ups, re-plummed a
fair amount of the pvc between filter cannister and pumps, done more
underwater plaster patches than I can recall, etc) and want to attempt
chipping off the old plaster to save some $. Is this adviseable? I
mean, come on…it’s not rocket science! I fully intend to hire a
reputable local company to re-plaster, but I feel pretty strongly that
I can do a good job with the old plaster removal. Is there any
reference material online I can access?
