Algae in waste pipe?

July 21st, 2007 · No Comments

After cleaning the pool the other day, I went over to the filter to
backwash it. I noticed at that point that I had some green algae
growing in the waste pipe (the pipe that leads from the filter to the
sewer system). There is a clear area in the pipe (so I can see if the
water is running dirty or clean when I backwash) and it is almost
entirely overgrown with algae, making it difficult to judge when I’ve
done enough backwashing.
Is this anything to be concerned about? I’m assuming that it is
growing since it sits in an area where sun can shine through the pipe
and the water is stagnant (unless I’m backwashing). We have no algae
problems in the pool itself.
