Concern about our new Hayward gas pool heater

June 27th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Hi everyone,
A few weeks ago we purchased a new Hayward H series gas pool heater
250K BTUs. It heats the pool fine but every so often when the heater
cycles on there is a loud “poof” noise (it sounds like someoone is
slamming a door) coming from the heater (there is also a smell of gas
when this happens). We had our installer in to check the heater out
(they thought initially that the problem was that there was a problem
with the igniter and that too much fuel was being ignited but when he
came out he couldn’t find anything wrong with it). Now we are at the
stage of dealing with Hayward and their warranty division. Has anyone
out there ever had a problem like this and what was the solution?

I am a warranty tech for hayward pool products. There are many things
that could cause what you are describing. Do you know what model heater
    this is??? Exact model number???
