Evaporation or Leak?? HELP!!

June 19th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Everyday for the last 3 or 4 days I’ve had to add water to my
inground pool. Specs: 25,000 gallon in-ground with approx 700 sq.ft
of water surface area (includes spa). We have had hot and humid
days but I’m not convinced that is the issue. For example. We have
not been using our solar cover (kids too impatient for me to take it
off everyday), but last night (after filling the pool again), in an
attempt to save pool water, I put the cover on at about 8pm.
Outside temp was mid-70’s. I ran the pump all night because we
haven’t filtered properly the last couple of days. This morning
(6am) I turned the pump off and saw the water was just as low as
before I filled it yesterday — with the solar cover on! How low is
the water? I have standard tile around the edge, the water level is
barely above the bottom of the tile, like maybe a half an inch or
less above the bottom of the tile. This morning the pump was
running at zero pressure because the water level was below the

skimmer. So I lost a good 2 inches of water, across approx. 700
square feet of water surface..
Is this normal? I live in the burbs of Washington DC.
Thanks for the comments and help!
