Concern about our new Hayward gas pool heater

June 27th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Hi everyone,
A few weeks ago we purchased a new Hayward H series gas pool heater
250K BTUs. It heats the pool fine but every so often when the heater
cycles on there is a loud “poof” noise (it sounds like someoone is
slamming a door) coming from the heater (there is also a smell of gas
when this happens). […]

Pool Putty…

June 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Just an FYI, in reference to my evaporation vs leak post… I found
some A/B putty at a not so local pool store and patched my skimmer.
So far, so good. 2 days straight with no leak!! Water level
maintained!! The leak was below the flap in the skimmer, where the
skimmer meets the pool. I think the flap […]

Finding underground pipe leak

June 25th, 2007 · No Comments

I’ve determined that I have a pipe leak under ground on a return line. My
method was to measure the drop in water level over 24 hours ( 1/2 inch ). I
then put stoppers in the return outlets and closed the valve for the line
and measured the lost over 24 hrs. Blocking the […]

Pool pump motor to replace Polaris motor?

June 24th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I’m selling a pool pump motor on eBay and I received a question from a
looker that I don’t know the answer to and I wonder if someone here might
know. The motor I’m selling is a 1HP 2-speed motor and the looker wants to
know if it would work on his Polaris pool cleaner pump. He said […]

Skimmer Leak…

June 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

I appreciate all the info I got on the prevous post of Leak or
Evaporation, but now I know it’s a leak. The water level never gets
below my skimmer and (the kicker) my skimmer box moves when I stand on
it, pulling itself away from my pool. I can also hear it scratching
when I stand in the […]

cooling a pool?

June 21st, 2007 · 1 Comment

My pool is now up to a bathtub-like 92 F. Any suggestions for
cooling? I’ve heard of running the solar heating system at night
though I’m not sure how well that would work. I suppose aiming a fan
at it at night might help knock off a couple degrees. 87 would feel
really nice right now.
Yes, the solar system […]

Cartridge Filters

June 20th, 2007 · No Comments

I have a Foxx pool with a Wal Pack that takes cartridge filters. I’m
getting some very fine dirt in the pool that my filters won’t seem to
pick up. I’m thinking that I need to replace the cartridges as they
are about 3 years old. I looked at a site that has them and they have
3 different […]

Evaporation or Leak?? HELP!!

June 19th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Everyday for the last 3 or 4 days I’ve had to add water to my
inground pool. Specs: 25,000 gallon in-ground with approx 700 sq.ft
of water surface area (includes spa). We have had hot and humid
days but I’m not convinced that is the issue. For example. We have
not been using our solar […]

Kreepy krauly thruster

June 17th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Hello Group,
I use a Kreepy Krauly in my 20 x 40 in ground vinyl pool. I have had
several attachments called Thrusters that are positioned in the suction
line and intermittently change the Kreepy Krauly’s direction to keep it
random.
The problem is, they cost $80 and don’t really work that well. Does
anybody know of an alternative or some […]
