Our pool has been giving us fits for, oh, about 8 months now! We are
on the verge of filling it in! It started last fall when the leaves
kept falling into the pool (we have a super treed back yard) and I
couldn’t keep up because I threw my back out. I finally go everything
straightened out, vac’ed the bottom and the pool cleared up. We’ve
had algae off and on this season. Normally, super shock and green to
clean clears it up in one treatment. Not this time! We have been
taking water samples to the pool store and they don’t understand. We
have been shocking it daily, and we have floating clorinators. We
have used 3 rounds of green to clean and 1 round of the other stuff (I
can’t remember what it’s called, but you can’t use it more than twice
a year). It is still green! The pump has been running 24/7 for 2 1/2
months and today the pump finally decided it was threw. Well, the
pool is 25 years old and it isn’t coming apart the way it should. I
just don’t know what to do! I am ready to let my husband fill it in.
I haven’t been able to handle pool chemicals due to being 3 months
pregnant and we haven’t been able to use the pool. I just don’t
understand! It’s like a swamp! We have water bugs and frogs living
in the pool, surviving all the shock! My dog even had a leech on her
which I can only assume was from the pool. I have a vinyl lined 35000
pool. Maybe the liner is torn at the bottom? What else could cause
NOTHING to clear up the algae? This is just costing too much money
and we still can’t use it!

if its to the point that you have frogs and leaches, your best bet is to
drain and refill. it can be cleaned up chemically and mechanically, but
it would be cheaper to drain and refill. IMO
