no water will go through skimmer

May 20th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Hi,
I just finished vacuuming the pool and I shut the pump off so I could
pull the hose out of the skimmer. When I turned the pump back on, all
the water was out of the skimmer and it was being sucked dry. I shut
it back off and allowed the water to come back in. Now, I can get no
water to go through the skimmer. Everything else seems to work fine.
I ran the pump through all the functions and everything seems OK
except for this skimmer problem.
The pool in question is in-ground, no bottom drain and we have a
Hayward sand filter and Hayward pump.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and how I can fix it?
Thanks.
Dave

Did you check to see if you a) have water in the filter tank & b) check
and clean the basket in the tank before the filter tank. If that is
filled with the stuff you vacuumed up, then it can’t draw water through
    the skimmer.
