Total alkalinity question…..

May 7th, 2007 · No Comments

I posted on here a week or so ago about cloudy water. I went to the
pool store and they told me I had chlorine separation, and gave me a
gallon of Muratic acid and 20 lbs of shock to put it. Almost overnight
it cleared up!
Here is my question…. I bought a test kit with more than just the
standard two bottles (yellow and red) and tested my water a couple
times. It looks like my total alkalinity is still too high (around
200) but my PH is on the low side (6.8).
What is the sequence to balance this? I am thinking I need to add more
muratic acid to bring the total alk down to the right levels, then add
PH+ to raise the PH to where it needs to be. Does this make sense or
am I not understanding things correctly?
