Is this a gasket that needs replacement??? Can I unscrew the top
replace the gasket or do I need a new valve..

Not enough info to really give a solid answer, however to answer your
question….. maybe. Make sure the pump is off of course, take the top
off and bring the gasket to a pool store. They ought to be able to
match it for you, whether it’s in stock or not.
If you provide some details you’ll get better responses.
