Is it OK to add shock and other chemicals through the skimmer

April 19th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I hear from some people NEVER add shock or any chemical through the
skimmer, and some people tell me this this is the recomended method.
Does anyone know which is the right method….
Thanks

Chemicals should never be added directly to a skimmer with the exception
of perhaps conditioner, soda ash, and de, perhaps a few others. Most
importantly do not put tablets into your skimmer. This is especially
important if you have a heater installed into your equipment. This can
and will cause serious damage to the heat exchanger portion of your
heater. This is a very costly part of your heater and is made of
copper. I’ve never known a pump to get ruined by chemicals. I suppose
it could happen. but, if the bearings on your pump motor were damaged,
it is only because the pump shaft seal leaked.
