Hello again everyone.
Stats: 25k gallon in-ground 20 year old pool with DE filter. I
recently tore the DE filter down and thouroughly cleaned it. After
reconstruction, it ran 4-5 days straight sitting right on 10 PSI,
the desired pressure reading. After sweeping the pool (suction hose
to skimmer) and cleaning out the trap between the skimmer and the
filter (thought I was being a good pool steward), my pressure starts
to drop. Now it reads 7-8 psi. I’ve always had a “few” bubbles
coming into the pool on the supply side, but now I get alot. When I
bleed off the air from the DE filter, it’s considerably more air
than ever before.
My pool store says that since I did not turn off the bottom drain
when I loaded DE into my filter via the skimmer, that might be
causing the low pressure. They suggest a back wash and “proper” DE
load. That’s easy enough to do, but anyone else have other
suggestions?
Again, we just bought the house and along came the pool.
Thanks,
SEC
Low Pressure…???

This sounds like the symptoms of a suction side air leak or cavitation
caused by an obstruction. Was there alot of debris on the bottom of the
pool? You might also try looking around the pump area when you shut off
the motor, often times(not always) you can see leaks because water will
squirt out of them when the pump is turned off due to back pressure in
the plumbing. Generally speaking, bubbles in your return lines indicate
some type of leak.
Hope this helps a little.
