New Pool Filter

March 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Hi - we have no idea how long its been since the sand was replaced in
our pool filter so I scheduled a sand change. (we bought the house
1.5 years ago) They came out today and said that the filter is old
(80’s) and that there was no guarantee that the filter would reseal
correctly after putting new sand in. The price for them to replace
sand is approx $500, but a new filter and new sand is approx $1000
(with a warranty).
My gut tells me that we probably should put a new filter on. It is
the original filter and the pool was put in in the mid 80’s.
They are suggesting a SD-80 filter - does anyone have any experience
with this model? they said $574 plus about $200 for installation and
they recommended putting Zeobright (instead of sand).
I’m interested in opinions on this? Is this a good filter? Should I
be looking at another one? (they also quoted TA-60 for $650) - but he
said there wasn’t much difference in those two filters.

Help??? Who knows about filters??? This is an in-ground pool 20,000
gal.
Thanks for your help!!!

The price doesn’t sound too unreasonable to me I suppose. I don’t know
about those particular filters, but two years ago I paid under $300 for
my Hayward S244T filter and just over $100 for Zeobest. I installed it
myself and that took no more than a few hours total. My pool is about
24k gallons and this setup has worked out great for me.
    Good luck!
