I own a vacation/rental home in florida. It has a pool/spa combination with
a Hayward Super II 2 HP pump. The pump runs 10 hours a day (since it’s a
rental home, the pool gets more use than a typical in a typical
owner-occupied home). According to a Hayward tech, the pump uses 1.55 KW,
and while the specs for the low speed of the 2 speed pumps isn’t published,
his guess was that it uses 50% of the power.
So…would I be justified in replacing this working pump with a two speed
model? I estimate I’m spending at least $550 per year just on running the
filter (and that’s guessing that I’m paying $.10/kwh, which may be
underestimating; I haven’t looked at a bill lately). I can do the work
myself and won’t need any major additional parts (some wiring and a few
plumbing parts is all), and my current control system supports 2 speed
pumps.
Thanks,
Steve
