Stains?

January 9th, 2007 · 2 Comments

We had our pool resurfaced 4 years ago. For maybe the last year,
something has been staining the bottom. It is growing. The surface
was troweled on, not sprayed. Does anyone have any idea what is
happening? Somewhere I got the idea that a pool surface had a 5 year
warranty?

Hi, Peter, Thanks for the reply.
Too bad about your paint peeling! What a mess. At least our pool had
had nothing done to it for many years before we had it resurfaced.
It was so pretty when they finished, and it is so sad to see how it
    looks now.
We had the resurface done. I do not know about gunite. All I know is
that they trowled the surface over exisiting surface.
I called the pool people, and they sent someone out. He said that
there were metal stains and he would have the pool man treat it. So
far, no change, but do believe it will be taken care of.
Then, he said that he saw something that concerned him more-a crack
around our drain. I explained that when the pool was resurfaced, they
did not use longer screws for the drain cover, and it came off. Some
one from their pool supply, replaced the screws with longer ones, but
they were not stainless, so they rusted. When they replaced the rusted

screws, they were stuck and were forceably removed, causing the crack
around the drain. (It is 8 ft deep.)
After putting this in writing to you, I think it is time for a
consulation with the owner of the pool service. It is a large company
in Florida, and hopefully something can be worked out.
    Thanks again.
    Pat
