Questions regarding Inground liner replacement

December 31st, 2006 · No Comments

I have a 16×32 in-ground pool that came with the house when I moved
in 8 years ago. The liner is still holding water but it will need to
be replaced soon. Its a little washed out due to chlorine and sun.
Over the past few years I have been making a few patched every season.
I think the previous owner but the pool in about 3 years before we
moved in so that makes the liner about 11 years old. I am not sure
about the gauge of the liner but I assume that is 20 gauge… so I
guess its getting to the end of its useful life.
I started pricing liners this week and WOW was I in for a shock. I am
getting quotes of about 3k. The liner is about 1,700 or so from
pelican and the labor is in the 1,200 - 1,300 range. I have found
some better prices online in about the $1,000(20 mil) -$1,200 (30
mil) range.
Since my liner is still OK I have some time to do some research… IN
live in central new jersey.

so here goes a few of my questions:
How hard is it to install your own in-ground pool liner
Are there people that I can hire if I provide the liner that will
help me install the new liner?
If I go with someone to supply and install the liner what should I
look for in getting someone to do the job.
does anyone have any recommendations if the NJ area?
Does anyone have web links that can point me in the right direction
so I can do my own research. most of the sites I visit only want you
to contact with them so I am looking for an unbiased opinion.
I am just getting setup for the spring so I have the luxury of time
on my side. but that could change and I want to be prepared
Thanks for any help I can get.
