above ground swimming pools

November 30th, 2006 · No Comments

I am about to purchase a pool. I’m looking at Doughboy and Atlantic
and Johnny Weissmuller pools, and I was hoping I could get some
feedback on these pools.
I also was told by one of the salesman that “earth filters” have been
found to be cancer causing. Is this true?
Also would appreciate any advice on buying a pool
thanks

What do you do if pool cyanuric acid and total hardness is too low?

November 28th, 2006 · No Comments

Hi,
I got a report from the pool store when they tested my water and
said my acid and total hardness was low.
Of course, they want to sell me all kinds of expensive stuff. I am
trying to find out if I can use something cheaper that works.
They told me to add stabilizer for the acid level and […]

determining actual pump flow rate

November 27th, 2006 · No Comments

When my pool is completed, and the equipment is hooked up, and
everything’s running, how can I determine how many gallons per minute
are actually being pumped? As far as I can see from pictures, it
doesn’t look like the pump will have a gauge on it which shows back
pressure or flow rate (it will be a Jandy […]

Noisy pump

November 26th, 2006 · No Comments

Came home today and my wife told me the pump - a Jacuzzi 1hp - started
making a loud racket this morning. She turned it off. I primed it when I
got home and turned it back on, and it pumps, but it has gotten really loud.
Any idea what’s gone wrong?
Thanks,
Harry

Solar Blanket Advice Needed

November 24th, 2006 · 1 Comment

As much as we didn’t want to have to do it, we had to bring out the solar
blanket, clean it up, install the reel and then the blanket — but not to
warm/keep warm the water.
Nope, we have squirrels who delight in cracking walnuts and then tossing the
shells into the pool. They settle and begin to […]

In-Floor Popup maintenance

November 23rd, 2006 · No Comments

I have a kidney shaped pool with an in-floor cleaning system. The pool
is about 7 years old. Even though the pop-ups all operate fine, the
pool doesn’t seem to get as clean as it used to. I was wondering if
the pop-ups need to be adjusted to have their flow direction
synchronized to make sure dirt doesn’t collect […]

First year with new pool

November 22nd, 2006 · No Comments

I have been reading everyone’s posts and have learned a lot. We had
our 18′ X 40′ I.G., Gunite, Diamond Brite Plaster, with diving board,
slide, and spa built last fall. It’s been great! First swim was last
Thanksgiving. We live in E. Texas so with the heater we have a long
season and can […]

New Member question about DE Filter

November 20th, 2006 · No Comments

I just found this group and hope someone can offer me some advice. We
just upgraded our sand filter to a DE Vertical Pro Grid. We have an
inground pool, 16 x 32 and 1 1/2 HP Super Pump. The problem is that
we are not getting 100% primed. I used to never see any air bubbles
in the […]
