solar heat panels

October 13th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I live in the Northeast and would be interested if anyone can give
feedback on Solar Heat Panels? Can they effectively maintain water
temperature at or above 80degrees from June through Sep?
Thanks, Avi

    Avi,
I live in NJ. I had 7 solar panels installed on the roof last year.
They get the pool warm during the day, but the cool nights will cool it down
again. To extend the season you will need to also use a solar cover.
Last year, kept the solar cover on, water was always in the 80s.
This year opened the pool memorial day, and this weekend the water will
finally hit 80. Have not put the solar cover on yet. But the weather hasn’t
    really been sunny.
Where you are located, how warm you want the water, and how large your pool
is, help determine how many panels you need.
In terms of maintenance, it seems pretty straight forward (I open and close
    the pool myself).
Let me know if you have specific questions.
    Tony
