Sinking an Above Ground pool

June 27th, 2006 · No Comments

Folks,
I currently have a round AG pool (basically a splash pool) with a
diameter of 4.5m and a depth of 1.2m. It is a very solid walled pool
(octagonal in shape with interlocking planks of wood). Pool has been
in place for 2 years.
We are re-doing the garden a little and would like to sink the pool
about 1/2 way (60cm). We will get a local contractor to come and dig
the hole. I can’t sink it all the way due to local building
restrictions here in Switzerland (hence the 60cm depth limit
without “planning permission” - also, more than this and we may hit
pipes or something silly). Anyway …
I’d really appreciate any advice / help / confirmation on the
following:
I’ll be disassembling the pool this weekend - is the liner re-
useable or will I definitely have to buy another?

I’ll be using the pool installation instructions in reverse - it
sounds logical and easy - am I missing anything?
In order to empty the pool completely (water currently at lower jet
level), I will use the skimmer to pump tube (disconnected from the
skimmer) as a vacuum. Does this make sense or should I do it another
way?
I presume I’ll have to keep the return jet (the lowest point of
water exit) above normal ground level for easy drainage (although I
suspect if only sunk by 60cm I should be fine)?
Sorry for the long message :) Thanks and regards,
Gary.
