brown stain on fiberglass pool

May 26th, 2006 · 1 Comment

We just moved into our home and it has a fiberglass pool. It has been
was full when the last owners moved out 6 + months ago. It slowly
evaporated, leaving behind a pool filled with leaves and the walls are
stained horribly brown. We cleaned the leaves and powerwashed the
pool, but the brown stain remains on the walls primarily near the
top. Can we use muratic acid? Is it safe to run through the pumps?
We have yet to turn it on also, because it does not have water in it.

    i had the same problem.
here is a way to figure out what type of stain you have. It may be metal
stains. wet a vitamin c tablet and rub it on stain. if the stain dissapears you
    have your answer “metals”.
the way to get rid of it is to fill your pool. then by some ascorbic acid which
is basically ground up vitamin c. they sell it at leslie’s pool supply if they
are close to you. poor it in your pool with the pump running and the stains
will dissapear before your eyes like magic.
there are a few steps to do afterward which will be on the bottle.
    good luck
