We have an in ground pool. The frozen pipes were up-ground around the
pump/filter. Sorry, I can’t tell you much more then that except that it
didn’t cost too much to replace the parts, so I don’t think it involved any
valves. I try not to get too involved in the mechanics - that’s the guys
department. God forbid I learn plumbing in this house - it would become MY
job. I don’t mow either - for that reason! (but I do the landscaping)
I’ve only experienced one year here (in the South) but last winter, there
were about 3 weeks where the temperature dipped well into the 20’s at night.

As to your statement about valves, Larry, would the quilt with the plastic
or tarp over it protect enough if we got a low cold dip or would it be ok
do you think? How low would it have to be to damage running pump valves?
Did the pipes (Larry and Ann both) either of you fixed a major

problem…were they above ground or inground, or was it just expansion
from ice and no breaks? how cold did it get where you are? Are your
pools inground or above? I don’t want to put out money for a new cover
and baffles if it is not needed! But I don’t want to take unreasonable
risks, either! TIA Mbryan
