I am using a powdered cholorine product called Shock Plus in our
pool. It is the same product that I used last year and had no
problems with it.
This year, I just can’t seem to hold the chlorine in the pool. It’s a
30,000 gal in-ground pool. After adding 8 pounds of chlorine
stabilizer (recommended amount), I was not able to maintain chlorine
in the pool… I mean that I would add chlorine in the evening, and
the following morning I would show no chlorine when I tested the water.
I added an additional 4 pounds of stabilizer to the pool, but the
results remained the same. I have since added another 8 pounds of
stabilizer and I still show no chlorine when I test the water. The Ph
level is perfect when I test.
Did I get a defective test kit, or is there something else going on
here? Advice/information would be greatly appreciated…

Yup, I definitely have to agree with Rick on this. It
sounds very likely that there is too much stabilizer
in the water and that the pool has gone into Chlorine
Lock. It may be neccessary to drain some of your water
off and add fresh water to dilute the cyanuric acid
levels.
