Hello, I’m new to this list as of today and am hoping that someone
can address a few issues I’m having.
I have an inground pool (16 X 32 - 23,000 gallons) and have noticed
a recent problem in which there are air bubbles in the clear cover
of the filter basket. When shutting off the valve from the pool
intake line (deep end of the pool), the air bubbles go away. When I
open this valve and shut off the valve from the skimmer, very little
water enters the pump. I don’t know much about pools but it appears
to me that there is air getting into the pool intake line. I tried
putting my hand in the water over the pool intake and there is some
suction. My concern is that the intake line coming from the pool to
the filtration system may have a leak of some kind. Does this seem
like a reasonable explanation and, if so, any ideas of how to locate
the leak? The intake line from pool to filtration system is
underground (under concrete) - I cannot see any visible signs of
leakage at the pump / shutoff values and there is no water near the
filtration system. Could this problem be costly to locate and repair?
Another problem I’m having (probably related) is that my Hayward
chlorinator is not feeding any chlorine into the pool, even though
there are lots of chlorine tablets in the feeder. Due to these 2
problems, my water has turned very cloudy. I added liquid chlorine
yesterday but, since the intake value is currently closed, I’m not
sure how long it will take to clear. Any ideas on these 2 issues
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
