Pool Equipment

February 2nd, 2006 · 1 Comment

Long time member of this group but have have ignored it the last two
years I haven’t had a pool.
Well, I’m doing the owner building thing agian, gunite is coming next
week it is getting time to select the filter and heater sweep etc..
Cost is not the major factor in my decsisions but long term
satisifaction. (the sour taste of poor quility will long out last the
sweet taste of a good price)
In my last pool I liked the Sta-rite sytem 3 cartrage filter system.
The moderator of this group hates it becouse it takes 10 minutes to
get it open with all the knobs, but the fact that I only had to do it
once a year that is not a big factor to me. At this point This is
what I plan to buy.
What is the hot filter set up..I liked the cartrige becouse once a
year a took it out took it to the carwash and I was done, is there
something better? I don’t want to have to dump stuff down the

strainer weekly or backwash regularly.
Heaters, I hated my last Sta-rite propane heater first of every
season it was a battle to get it started, it failed after 3 years and
the last thing I had to do moving out of my old house was replace it
for the new owners, I am open to any propane heaters, solar doesn’t
work for me (I will probably do some solar) I want to be in my pool
the first warm weekend of the year, solar is great to maintan the temp
but I want more…(instant satisifaction)
Pool Sweeps, There is about 100 different ones on the market, I have
plumbed for pressure side, I don’t have a problem with a second boost
pump, is there any real difference between the brands.
Chemical feeders, In the past I used a off line clorine feeder, I
plan on a one line. Are the salt Systems work the $800- $1000?
I know I asked alot of question here, but I think the feed back should
be interesting and good input for my buying decissions.

    Hello, Terry.
I felt I ought to comment on the above as I’ve never made any comments
against (or for) cartridge filter systems. I have a sand filter - which
I’m quite happy with - and I don’t have experience of any other type of
    filtration.
Filtration is a frequently discussed topic in the Group and a subject
on which many Members have strong opinions. It is very interesting and
helpful to read those opinions and to hear on what they are based.
Thanks, everyone, for sharing knowledge, experiences & opinions.
