I don’t have the solar reel although we looked into them a couple
months ago.
Ours is an oval, 15′x31′ AG. The reel would have been ackward across
the end of the pool or we could have bought one to swing off the side
yet it would be extremely heavy with the cover rolled up on it.
We opted for a solar panel. We only needed one and it ran us a little
over $200 at Leslie Pools. On average it heats your pool 10 degrees
warmer.
We were worried about that, living in Southern Arizona and it over
heating the pool. That hasn’t happened. Today our water is 90 which
to some may be too warm but hubby is extremely happy. You can install
a bypass valve if you want to bypass the panel because your water is
too warm.
Just another option for you ![]()

Thanks for the tips!
We’ve been thinking about a solar panel, but
the issue is where to install it…that process
is on-going and will most likely install a panel
sometime next season.
My original post is close to 2 weeks old now
and the cover is on and working great.
Heavy is relative; my g/f and myself workout <G
Don’t take that the wrong way…each situation
requires its own unique solution. e.g. I’m into
astronomy and a telescope that works for one is
not necessarily the right one for someone else…
whether the reason be its too heavy, or light and
bulky…in a nutshell…I see and understand your
point <G
What I did was to order another rail bracket from
Water Warehouse so the rolled up cover has a place
to sit; either one of us just removes it from one
bracket and “walk” it over to the other.
What I don’t get is how this dang thing is advertised
as being able to be swung out of the way outside the
diameter of the pool after the cover is rolled up.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Anyone? Beuller?
Beuller?
Thanks again!

Hi,
This is going to fall in the “Different strokes for
different folks…” category <G
You don’t _have_ to swing the reel every time you roll
it up. I have mine installed on an oval 12×24 where the
radius of the pool starts (where the rails start to curve).
We have enough room to swim; the only times we swing the
reel out is when the nieces are over so they can have the
full area.
I would think you would have to swing the reel out of the
way for a round pool as I believe the reel would effectively
“cut” the pool in half?
Installing the 3rd bracket really makes things easy. Roll
up the cover, get in the pool, swing the reel to the 3rd
bracket and viola! Done!
Unless we were doing something wrong (which we probably
were <G
many broken bubbles; now, if we were supposed to *fold*
the blanket with the bubbles facing in, that’s a different
story. That took too much time….
Sorry for he brevity…
