Another question I have is sizing a propane heater for an A/G pool. I have
an 18′ round pool and I’m seriously considering a propane heater. I live in
central Illinois USA and for a lot of the swimming season we have very hot
days but cooler nights. Even with a solar cover, the pool cools down a lot
at night. (It seems to me, more than my I/G pool ever did.) I have a solar
heater that warms the pool up nicely on sunny days but it’s later in the day
before the pool is warm enough for me to swim. (I might be a chicken but I
like 80 degree water!) Anyhow, I’d like to be able to add about 6 degrees
(from 74 to 80) in a short time when the air temp is in the low 70’s. Can
anyone tell me if this is doable with a propane heater? If so, what size
heater do I need?
Again, thanks for any help that you can give me.

I’d get used to swimming in cooler water rather than try to raise the
temperature by 6 degrees for a swim…!
Water has a high specific heat capacity, that heater will cost a
fortune to run.
Have you tried swimming in clothes?!
Seriously, it makes quite a difference to body heat convection rates,
and you get more exercise too! It can be fun, too, sometimes.
