dura-glass p2ra pump dissassembly

September 2nd, 2005 · 1 Comment

Has anyone dissambled a dura-glass pump?
I think I need to tighten the heat sink, cuz
the pump is now leaking from right behind the
seal plate.
I get stuck at the part where the instructions
say “remove motor canopy”.
I don’t know what that is. And I somehow
need to unscrew the impeller to get to the
heat sink and remove seal plate.
Thanks!

    Hi Ken,
thanks for the email. Very informative.
I can’t seem to be able to remove that back-side of the pump
I unscrew the two screws, but there is no budging that back part
of the a.o. smith motor. The middle part of the pump came apart
easily (once I undid the clamp, etc)
I’ve sort of given up and called a pool guy to come and replace
    the pump.
I usually love to do things myself, but it’s been about 2 weeks
struggling with this, and the pump is rusted on the bottom, so I
might as well get a new one and take good care of it.
I guess the money I save opening and closing the pool myself will
    pay for this job.
    Live and learn!
    Thanks again!
