Vacuum problem

August 31st, 2005 · No Comments

I replaced my old pump w/ a pentair 3/4 horse and replumbed w/ 2 inch
PVC. I assume I now have no air leaks, which I did before, b/c there
are now no bubbles on the output side, and only an air bubble the
size of a quarter in under the pump skimmer lid. But when I plug in
the Kreepy Crawler with its 1-1/2 inch 30′ tubing, the load on the
pump goes up and the water level in the pump goes down to about
half. The crawler doesn’t work well at all, if at all (same as
before changing the pump). I don’t see any holes in the tubing, and
I noticed that if I connect 6 ft of 1-1/2″ tubing to the skimmer w/o
the cleaner on the end, it will start to decrease the water level.
Could the problem be the smaller tubing going into the 2″ tubing, and
do I need flexible 2″ tubing for the crawler to work properly? I’ve
never seen 2″ flex.
Thanks,
Mike
