Humming sound from my pump

August 22nd, 2005 · 1 Comment

Hi all,
I took off the cover, unplugged the plugs to the lines,
primed the pump, attached the screws, etc to the filter and
pump, and when I turne my filter on, all I heard was a hum.
No, gush and rush of water that I’m used to seeing.
Am I missing something?
Thanks!!

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
I disassembled the pump and I simply needed to
give the impeller(?) a few turns to loosen it and that did the
    trick.
Now what’s happening is that the filter will for awhile
then the pressure will drop to 0 and the only way to get it
going again is if I fill the filter with water.
There is no leak from the filter and it’s a new filter (go it last
    summer)
It’s a DE filter. Is there special priming for DE filters?
(I’ve always had a Sand filter)
    Thanks again!
