Test kits

May 19th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Hello all
I’m Luna from North Queensland, Australia. We’ve just installed a
pool as our family Christmas present and I’m keen to look after the
water chemistry myself rather than having to take water samples into
the pool shop.
My problem is finding test kits for some of the tests. I bought a kit
which measures free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity and acid demand.
I’d like to also measure combined chlorine and cyanuric acid levels
but haven’t been able to find tests. The pool shops haven’t been
overly helpful as they would rather I bought the water in for them to
test.
Does anyone know of anywhere in Australia where I could order these
tests or a test kit which includes them.
Thanks for you help,
Cheers

Luna

Who makes the test kit you have? If it is a Taylor who is the largest
manufacturer they have test kits for everything dealing with your pool water.
    You
need a DPD test kit that test not only free chlorine but combined chlorine. I
did a search and could not find the Taylor site but I found many people who
sell the kits. Do search and maybe a site in your area will pop up. You could
    even go to ebay!
Cyanuric acid levels need only be tested twice per year. If you are using
chlorine tablets that have cyanuric acid in them then generally the levels are
high and stay that way so frequent testing is not needed.
Be sure to replace the test agents in your kit every year.
