I have been reading about the older plaster being better. That some
newer plaster isn’t as good. Can someone please explain precise what
this means. That is what is the difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’
plaster and how I can know if they are mixing ‘good’ or ‘bad’
plaster?
Thanks,
Jo

older plaster is the conventional white marcite plaster which is
mostly marble dust, white cement and bonders and /or silicone
sealers, newer plaster or exposed aggregate plasters, with different
colors to choose from, these ‘newer’ plaster will stain or bleach
easier, stain because the pores are not 100% sealed, the colored
plasters can bleach with shock, aggregate plaster will hold algae
longer than a smooth plaster pool because of that, the roughness of
the surface, acid washing can discolor the newer plaster if not used
with caution, white plaster is very forgiving in these areas. that’s
why it is my choice for a finish, even cheaper than other plasters.
As for ‘good’ or ‘bad’ plaster, this is determined by the quality of
the water going in the plaster mix, hard to avoid in some
situations, well water with high metals can be bad, in this case
consider bringing water in 55 gal. drums, I imagine a couple hundred
gals. would be sufficient.
