Hello,
Can someone tell me how to care for a pool in the wintertime. I have
a 21 ft. round, above ground. I have it covered. I balanced the
water, I was wonder what kind of care do I need to do weekly are
monthly to the water. I was told to run it once a week, and shock
once a week as well. I use chlorine for shock. Any help would be
appreciated.
Thanks , Lynda

Hey Linda,
It depends on what part of the country you are in as to what type of care you
should use. Generally the best thing I have found is to get a winter cover
(the type that sits down on the surface of the water and is opaque), an air
pillow to hold up the center of the cover for drainage, about six or eight
waterbags to hold down the outside edge of the cover inside the pool. Shock the
pool well, use some type of algae control product, some stain preventative and
circulate the water for several days then drain the pool down to below the
skimmer and remove the pump and filter and store them away. Plug the return
hole
on the inside and install the cover with the air pillow in the center and the
waterbags spaced around the inside of the pool to hold down the cover. You may
also need a small pump to drain rain water off of the cover during the winter.
In the spring reconnect the pump, remove the cover, fill the pool and shock
it and use some algae control type product again. By using an opaque cover you
keep out the light, dirt and water. No source or light for the algae and it
will not grow, no dirt or leaves to clean out next spring and you save on the
electricity to run the pump. All told the cover and bags should run you about
$200.00 and the chemicals another $30.00. Pease of mind and hassle free
spring opening…………………………..priceless!
