I’m debating whether to get just a winter cover or pay the extra money to
get a safety cover. I have an 18×36 IG pool; the yard is enclosed by a 6′
wood fence. No young children to worry about, and it seems most people
around here (that I’ve talked to) only keep their pools covered a few […]

?’s about not “closing” pool for winter
March 28th, 2005 · 2 Comments
I’m wondering if we really need to close our pool for the winter.
I’m in southern AZ, northwest of Tucson, and our winters are mild.
Very little rain, very little freezing nights. We have no tall,
leafing trees and just bugs and dust to worry about.
What happens if we decide not to cover it? Would we treat it […]

Question about costs and realistic goals …
March 22nd, 2005 · 3 Comments
I also want to add some info about contractors and the Better
Business Bureau or Dept of Consumer Affairs… Some contractors
cancell their existing license and reapply for a new one. What this
does is it eliminates any claims on record for the contractor and
gives him a clean slate. As you look up his […]

Responsibility of Pool Service Company
March 21st, 2005 · No Comments
Reading the above post has caused me to think about what remedies I
may have against the company that opened my pool this year. I
purchased my home in January and opened the pool in May. It is an
inground 18×36. Being completely naive to pools I used the yellow
pages and called a company […]

Question about costs and realistic goals of a custom pool
March 17th, 2005 · 1 Comment
I am going to try to explain what I am looking for though a drawn
picture would be much better.
I am looking to have a completely custom pool put into our backyard.
I want it to be oddshaped, IE kind of like a small pond, I want to
have a waterfall that covers the […]

Blowing out Return, Skimmers and Main Drain
March 16th, 2005 · No Comments
I live in NJ so it gets pretty cold in the winter.
Can someone email or post the step by step directions to:
1. Blow out Skimmer-I heard you set the multiport valve between
settings and blow out thru the back-wash hose outlet with a shop vac
and then plug the lines. Is this correct?
[…]

Degreasing & Acid Bath question (D.E. Filter)
March 12th, 2005 · 1 Comment
Pesky first year pool owner here with my usual long list of questions:
Per the instructions from the pool store after I disassemble my D.E.
filter I am to degrease it, give it an acid bath, then dry & store.
1. How do you degrease it?
2. A friend at work says she doesn’t acid bathe it until spring. […]

Cartridge filters!
March 11th, 2005 · No Comments
Personally I am a great fan of multi-cartridge filters either the
Hayward Swimclear series or the Pentair Clean & Clear series. The
Sta-Rite company has a series of large cartridge filters but my
personal opinion is that the cartridges are very expensive and not
available from the aftermarket making it low on the list. Do […]

Ken
good catch Ken, I just assumed some one would tap on it to remove it
if stuck, but I do this all the time and failed to mention it as
many home onwers might not be aware of that little trick.
