I need advice. I feel like a slave to my new pool. It is a 15′ round
above ground pool. The salesman told me that I would have to vacuum
the pool once a week. I live next to a steel mill and there is grafit
in the air but I fine every morning I vacuum and by 3 hours later is
needs it again.
Could someone explain this to me. I am pretty lost on the little bit
of instructions that I have be given. I went to the Hayward website
for the pump to find advice and didnt get anymore then was in the
package with the pool.
Thanks Denise

    Denise,
Anything floating in the air will find it’s way into your pool and settle to
the bottom. If your pool was one of the less expensive models then the
filtration system is not very good and may not be strong enough to run an
    automatic
cleaner. A cover would be a good thing to have for your pool as it would
cut down the amount of dust in your pool. I am not talking about a solar cover
either but one that wraps around the sides.
Also we have a nice selection of whips and chains for those that feel like
    slaves. Just kidding! Or not!
The best thing you can do is develop a maintenance chart and follow it.
There are things you need to do weekly and monthly. What you need to do depends
on what type of products you are using in the pool and what type of filter you

    have.
What type of products are you using and what would you like to use and what
type of kilter do you have?

My master is a 15′ round Chateau Deluxe package. It contained the Hayward
Sandmaster high-rate sand filter system. I have been using the Pool Season type
of clorine disks and have to apply the PH UP about once every 2 weeks. It came
with a pole vacuum which has pretty good suction now that I figured out how to
use it. The problem that keeps coming back is like a sand colored and is only
on the floor of the pool but it will start going up the side if I didnt
vacuum everyday. Having kids I am afraid that it could be a type of mold and I
    dont
need any health problems from it. It is 45 min to the Pool place where I
bought the pool but I cant get it, to take it up.
    I feel so blonde,

    Denise,

“MY Master” M/s relationship with a pool! One for the books!
If the sand colored stuff moves when you brush it chances are that it is just
dirt. If it is sand then it could be from your filter so you really need to
get in and take a sample for yourself. If you are getting sand from your
filter get the dealer back out there and have them fix it that should be a
    warranty item.
You should run the pump one hour for every 10 degrees of outside air temp and
run it during the day. Get yourself a test kit if you do not have one and
check the water twice per week for now and then once per week when you get a
handle on it. You are using chlorine tabs which have a very low pH and could
harm your liner if handled improperly so care must be taken so the kids do not
get their hands on the tab and that it does not fall to the bottom of the pool.
The reason you need to add the pH up is because of the tabs they are
dragging the pH down slowly but as long as the total alkalinity is correct at
    100 to
140 then adding the pH up every two weeks is just fine. If the TA is low then
increase it to the correct level and your need for the pH up may decrease
even further. Where do you keep the chlorine level?
Just remember to keep the pool care simple……..no crazy home
remedies………and remember there are no “blond moments” with your pool only
    uninformed
decisions. Is there a Leslies Pool Supply in your area? They have a good
book on pool care that is a bit dated but still applies to everything you do
with your pool. The guy who wrote it has forgotten more than I think most of us
    here ever knew.
