Pines by Pool

October 15th, 2004 · 2 Comments

We have asked every pool builder here in the greater Sacramento area
we have interviewed whether a neighbor’s pine tree which is only 3
and a half feet from the fence would pose a problem to either the
plumbing beneath and around the gunite or with maintaining the pool.
The pine is only about 4 years old but growing quickly. Due to our
small backyard and set back requirements the pool will only be 4
feet from the fence. 3 of the 4 builders seem to dismiss our
concerns while another referred us to a city engineer. Are our
concerns regarding the pine warranted? We are considering offering
to pay to have the tree moved a little further from the fence.
Anyone’s experience with trees around a pool are welcomed.
Regards,
Bill Wolff

One lady I knew in Tucson had pines within three feet of her pool. These
were established trees and when the wind blew she always had a load of needles
    in
the pool. As far as roots giving you problems with the pool itself, no and
with the plumbing , maybe in 20 years. The only real problem will be needles
clogging up the pump and filter making maintenance much more difficult for
    you.
