filter question

October 31st, 2004 · No Comments

Hayward EC-40 DE filter. Bumping is no longer helping. Can not get
filter to run efficiently for more than 20 minutes straight without
pressure buildup. Is it possible that the flex tubes are dirty
inside and clogged? Last time I looked at them they only had DE
coating. What is the best way to clean them? Acid soak? I […]

Baracuda pipe?

October 30th, 2004 · 2 Comments

I inherited a baracuda pool cleaner with my house/pool. It looks old
but still chugs away when you plug it in. The problem is that it gets
stuck in the deep end because it looks like the pipe it holding the
baracuda up - it doesn’t sit flat on the floor so it stops moving
forwards.
Is the pipe supposed […]

Pollen?

October 29th, 2004 · No Comments

Hello all.
I have an 18×36 in-ground outside of Boston MA. My chlorine level is
fine, and the water is crystal clear. However, my vinyl liner is
covered with a yellow/green film. I don’t think it’s algae given the
water quality. Safe to assume it’s pollen? The pollen has been
brutal up here this spring in general. I vacced up […]

Pool vac question

October 29th, 2004 · 3 Comments

I remember seeing this, but can’t remember. When using a vac with a
sand filter, what position should the valve be turned to. In other
words, waste, backflush, etc. I know that normal causes a lot of
the dirt to be flushed back into the pool. Thanks…

new pool owner with questions

October 24th, 2004 · 2 Comments

I have a 26,000 gallon in-ground pool that just had all new water put
in after some work was completed. We bought the house in the fall and
have never had a pool before. I hope someone can help me out with
some basic questions.
1. The filter has settings for rinse and recirculate. When would
these be used?
2. Yesterday […]

Shocking & back washing

October 24th, 2004 · No Comments

I keep reading about everyone shocking. I remember the pool store
guy telling us when we bought the pool something about shocking
every week. But I’m wondering…if all the chemicals are reading
good, do we really need to shock every week? We shocked it once
right after filling it and tonight we over filled it for a couple
hours and […]

Summer care

October 23rd, 2004 · No Comments

Hello,
Our neighbors, who are only here (Florida) 3 or 4 weeks a year, have
purchased an above ground pool. The pool is in the open, no shade at
all. They want to shock it and cover it during the time they are away
and want my husband to look after it. Are there different rules for
shutting down a […]

removing wrinkles?

October 22nd, 2004 · 1 Comment

I had a 24′ above ground installed this year and when I ventured in
the other day, I noticed that the bottom isn’t perfectly smooth.
There’s a few wrinkles here and there that tend to collect debris. Is
there any way to fix this. Im wondering if maybe when everything
warms up this summer it might stretch out some. […]

Tracy, take a sample to the pool store and have them check the pH, TA and
free and total chlorine. You will probably find the pH very low and the free
chlorine level to be zero.
They should be able to tell you what to do.
