When you backwash only put in a fraction of the full recharge amount. Are you
backwashing until it runs clear at least. How old is the filter? There maybe
calcium buildup on the grids causing this.

it is a 48 sq ft then I think it takes 9 cups for a full refill and you want
to use about 4 or so during backwash. You say cups! Do you mean scoops or do
you really mean 8 oz cups.
