polaris 380 vac

August 25th, 2004 · 3 Comments

My pool builder told me if I buy a polaris 380 he would install it
for free. (the polaris 380 was an $1800 option if I wanted it from
the builder). My local spa and pool store sells the polaris 380 for
$1200. I am finding them in internet stores for a low of $571 to
$800.
Acording to the web site it includes the polaris 380 and the
pump. The price seems too good to be true. I am almost to scared
to buy the $571 unit because the price seem too low.
Has anyone bought a polaris $380?
How much was it?
Does anyone know how a couple of internet companies can price their
units $200 cheaper then everyone else?
Is it possible these are refurbished units?

Stan, that $1800 includes some dedicated plumbing needed to install the
cleaner on your pool does it not? The prices from the other places does not.
Unless you pool is already plumbed for the cleaner then you need to get your
builder to install it at the time the pool is built.
The Polaris 380 is a pressure side cleaner that takes water from the output
of you filter and boosts the pressure by way of a dedicated pump. The pump
needs wiring, plumbing and a timeclock to operate. The pump output needs to be
plumbed through the sidewall of the pool so the flex hose can be connected to
the cleaner. if your pool is set up for the cleaner then go witht ehcheaper
price because it is the same equipment. But if not then the builder is the
    only way to go!

There is really not much to installing the cleaner itself if the plumbing is
in place. Installing the pump is not difficult if the connections are there
and a timeclock and connection box are installed.
Stan, one question. Given the amout you spent on the pool which my guess it
between $15K to $25K is saving a couple of hundred worth the frustration of
having to install it yourself. Why not let the builder do everything for you.
He will give you a warranty and if it should not perform you can always call
him. Can you do that with the internet? NO!

Ok, maybe we should go back a step. Is the pool builder installing the
necessary plumbing to connect the cleaner? This includes the pipes throught the
sidewall of the pool, the connection to the filter output, the extra timeclock
and the wiring needed to connect the boosterpump . None of this comes with the
cleaner. The $571 price maybe a cleaner without the booster pump and the
$125 rebate has been going on for years.
