sports pool

August 21st, 2004 · 1 Comment

I am in the process of getting a pool. Instead of a pool with
a 9 foot deep end and a diving board I was thinking about getting a
pool that my builder is calling a sports pool. I would have shallow
ends on both sides and come to a deeper area in the middle that is
5.5 feet deep. The idea being that when you are in a pool most
people spend 90% in the shallow end, so why not make most of the
pool shallow. The pool comes with a volleyball net, basketball
hoops and water polo goals.
Does anyone have one of these pools?
What do you think about the concept?

Many if not most of the new pools being built are of this design. Call them
play pools or sports pools they feature a built in volley ball net and many
times a basketball backboard and net as well. If this is the type of pool you
get then you should get the volley net that is built in to the deck and if you
want the basketball backboard built in as well. These are far superior to the
units that sit on the deck and look nicer as well.
Most older pools that featured diving boards have had the boards removed
because of insurance issues or the simple fact that no one was using it anymore.
Having the 8-9 foot deep end almost doubles the gallonage of the pool and
therefore your maintenance. One of the biggest features of new pools is a
    slide.
The slide is great for young kids and does not require a pool deeper than 4.5
    feet.

When you purchase your pool one thing you do NOT want to scrimp on is the
pump filter package. The filter is 80% of keeping that pool clean so if there
    is
an up grade package take it. Having an oversize filter that requires less
maintenance is better than an undersize unit that you will be servicing often
which will take the enjoyment out of your pool really quick.
Enjoy your pool. Well everything except paying for it that is!

P.S. What type of finish are they pushing? TebbleTec tends to be hard on
feet so for a play pool find a smoother finish like plain old plaster.
