Adding pool steps to an inground vinyl pool

August 21st, 2004 · 1 Comment

We’ve been thinking about adding after-market pool steps to our
inground vinyl pool, but are confused about how they fit. There are
several models in the various pool supplies catalogs, but we still
have many questions.
Our pool does not have a flat bottom, and there is a curve (not a
right-angle) between the wall and bottom.
How do pool steps handle this? Is there some way that the steps
adjust/compensate for the uneven bottom? Are the steps solid and safe
once installed?
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s considered or installed these kind
of steps—both positive and negative feedback.
Thanks/Susan

The stainless steel steps I know and use do not attach to the pool at
all. They are set into the deck a few inches back from the edge.
Generally the bottom of the steps curve towards the pool wall where
they may press against the wall by means of wide “bumpers”.
Steps in liner pools don’t normally reach down as far as the floor.
