July 30th, 2004 · 1 Comment

pump is not putting out enough pressure. about 8 pounds now, was 15
prior.
1 1/2 hp pump for a 48 sqft de filter. pump 8 years old, filter 2
years old. (used to be a cartridge).
opinions welcome.
1. i thoroughly cleaned filter, no help
2. should i open pump. if so what do i look for?
3. is the pump adequate for filter?
4. if i need a new pump should i go for a 2hp?
thanks

Chuck , the pressure is not the issue here but flow volume is. The pressure
is only a measure of how hard you pump is having to work to push water through
the system. If nothing has changed then the pressure should be the same.
The forst thing to check is the pump strainer pot. Is it full of water to the
top with only a few bubbles visable? If not then it could be the oring on the
pot lid, it could be the line from the skimmer to the pump is clogged, the
impeller could be clogged as well. If there were any problem after the pump the
pressure would be higher not lower.
