Thanks, eletricjet, for the great primer on chlorine. I have been
using Aqua Chem 3″ stabilized tablets in our vinyl liner, in-ground
pool. The label says it is 99% Trichlor0-s-triazinetrione and 1%
other ingredients.
Any comments? I did notice that I had to use two floaters to keep the
chlorine level high enough in our 25,000 gallon pool. Should I
switch to 1″ tabs?
I usually shock once a week as a preventative rather than waiting for
cloudy water like some of my friends do. Our water is always crystal
clear. I have been using Shock Plus, also from Aqua Chem. It is
58.2% Sodium dichlor-s-triazinetrione and 41.8% other ingredients. I
like it because it does not require pre-dissolving. Any comments on
this product or my shock schedule?
Thanks so much for offering your help in a non-commercial, unbiased
forum. My pool shop tried so hard to keep me on Soft Swim even
though we had nothing but trouble with our pool when we used it.

Soft swim and Baqusil are popular non chlorine products but I have found it
is a love it or hate it proposition.
You use tabs in your vinyl lined pool! Ever had the kids play with the
floater and dump the tabs on the liner? For a 25K gal pool I would say that
1″ tabs might work better especially if you live somewhere in the south.
Your once per week with the dichlor is great keep it up but how much do you
use? My guess would be around three pounds during the summer and with heavy
use and one to two in the spring and fall with hardly any use.
One thing you should be looking at just as hard as your chlorine and that is
your equipment. Your filter system accounts for 85% of keeping the pool
clean.
Also on your tabs look at the available chlorine, what you gave was how much
trichlor was in the tabs not the same thing.
