Help buying pool

April 24th, 2004 · 1 Comment

I hope I am at the right group…
My husband and I are having a house builting in S. California. We
want to have a inground pool put in and I would love suggestions on
chosing a contractor. If anyone can help or lives in the Palmdale
area of LA County and can recommend a contractor it and all
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I see that you have one answer that will echo what I was going to say and
that is to talk to friends, neighbors, co-workers and ask who built their
pool. Talk to contracters and get references then check them out. If they
sound precanned then walk away. This is the only way you will find a good
contractor. I just moved to the midwest from Tucson, Arizona and to find a
    contractor there was difficult.
Several things that I have learned about having a contractor build your pool
    are,
    1. Get everything in writing (EVERYTHING). Leave no stone unturned. This
includes how much of the cleanup they will do and the timelines for
    completion of works phases.
    2. You will find that there is a a lot of activity when the money is due and
    it tapers off between paychecks.
    3. Be nice to the contractors. Had one older lady that made cookies for her
contractors and they did a great job for her while another guy who was a jerk

had the same builder and they did a horrible job for him. In fact he got
into a fight with the contractor right in the street. Be nice to your
contractor. Find a good one and bend over backwards. Yes you are spending a
great deal of money but this is an investment. You have mutual funds,
stocks? How much research did you do before investing and how much do you
    monitor them now? Same here!
    4. Think simple! Do you need the latest big bucks gadget! No! Think this
through, if it costs alot and really does not add a great deal of value to
the pool forget it. In floor cleaning systems are one that come to mind. I
have only mey several people with them out of hundreds that liked the system.
The rest wished they had kept their money!
    Hope this helps
