Solar panels are expensive

March 26th, 2004 · 1 Comment

Wow, 2000 pounds (~$3200) for my pool - that includes 300 pounds for the
autmatic valve thing but does NOT include fitting or even any framework to
hold the panels.
Has anyone tried DIY panels?? :) How about domestic radiators painted black?
They can be had for next to nothing. They have a much smaller internal bore
but you could split them into about 3 parallel rows, maybe?
Cheers
Nick.

Welcome to solar. Look at the up side, when you get this installed there is
no additional cost for fuel as there would be with gas or electric. Before
you build any framework to hold the panels check with any home owners
associations you have and with your neighbors. The DIY solar works well we
sold much of it in the southwest US. Be sure the algle of the panel is
correct to get the maximum amount of gain for this time of year.
