Deck tiling, pump noise, fan noise

January 27th, 2004 · 1 Comment

We just installed a San Juan fiberglass pool (Phoenix model) and had planned to
put tile on the decking. After walking with wet feet on similar tile, I’m
worried that it will be too slippery. Does anyone have a recommendation of where
to look for tile that might have a high coefficient of friction and be suitable
for pool decking? Research resource suggestions would be great too. (I can just
see myself breaking a hip!)
Also, the pump is next to our house, and the noise is driving us crazy. What
suggestions does anyone have to reduce the noise? It sits on a pad that appears
to be made of plastic(?). Would a concrete pad help? Thought of building a
little house around it. Any problem with that?
Finally, dealer didn’t tell us fiber optic control box had a fan and was very
noisy. We’re thinking of moving it to the other side of a wall and/or building a
box to cover it (with ventilation, of course). Any other ideas?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Stan

Go to a tile showromm and ask them about tile for your deck. As far as pump
noise you should be able to hold a normal conversation next to your pump. If
not then something is wrong with it. Is it the pump housing or the motor
making the noise? As far as fan noise it should be just a little blower and
you should hardly notice it. Maybe the fan motor is in need of replacement.
That type of fan should be available at radioshack.
