Winterizing filter

January 22nd, 2004 · 1 Comment

Hi all/
I used to have a 50 pound sand filter that I emptied out and brought inside.
Now I have 150 pound, and do not want to empty. Can I just bring the
plumbing inside, remove the drain plug, and cover it with a plastic bag?

Sounds like a setup for an above ground pool and yes disconnect all the
flexable hoses and the pump and bring them all inside. Empty the water out
of the sand filter and leave the drain plug out. Cover the filter with a
heavy duty trashbag and secure with tape or rope to prevent it from blowing
in the wind and being torn. Be sure all the water drains from the valve as
well so it does not freeze and crack the valve housing.
