Pros and cons, once you have painted the pool it will be necessary to
repaint again for the remainder of the life of the plaster. This is not all
bad because if you use a quality paint you may only paint once to twice per
decade. Powersand the pool to get deposits off the walls and floor then
acid wash. The acid wash gives the plaster some tooth for the paint to
adhere to. The best type of pool paint is epoxy but follow the directions to
the letter. When checking the dryness of the plaster use small squares of
plastic taped to the plaster in several locations and when no moisture forms
behind then the pool is dry enough to paint. Epoxy does not give very much
coverage and costs alot per gallon for example Leslies has a two part paint
that goes for $120 per two gallon kit so expect to pay at least a grand for
paint. Get enough to do the entire pool two coats and mix the kits to insure
color uniformity. Go cheap and you will be painting more often.
