Backwashing

November 29th, 2003 · No Comments

When we had an above ground pool with a sand filter, we would backwash
it until the little glass jar on the side of the filter had clear water
running through it. Sometimes we would only have to do it for a minute
or two, other times longer depending on when we last did it, and how
dirty the sand got.
We now have an inground pool with cartridge filters and clean them twice
a year. When we do it depends on the pressure gauge and how much the
pressure increases. We put a filter basket sock on it and notice that
we don’t get nearly as much dirt into the filter as the sock catches
much of the smaller particles.
We have also had LOTS of rain (N. Mississippi) and have had to take
water out of the pool this year. Just remember to shock your pools
after all the rain.
