Worm/acorn stains on 3M Colorquartz Plaster

October 29th, 2003 · 3 Comments

I recently had my pool refinished with blue 3M Colorquartz aggregate
plaster. Almost immediately stains began appearing. The worst stains
are from earthworms, and acorn stains are nearly as bad. Dark, DARK
brown, and indelible. I now have an automatic cleaner (which I
didn’t have before), but it doesn’t always get the debris before a
[…]

Chlrine conditioner keeps dissappearing

October 26th, 2003 · 2 Comments

Steve hold on there. Why are you using liquid chlorine in your pool? Liquid
chlorine is not very strong and you are adding alot of salt (one pound per
gallon) to the pool. Use Sodium Dichlor instead, it is stabilized (cyanuric
acid in it) it is five times stronger and you can use it for chlorination
and shock. If […]

Rust Stains

October 23rd, 2003 · 1 Comment

I have a white plaster pool with a couple of rust stains from
something metal that was dropped in the pool, and a couple of stains
from red clay dirt on the steps.
I was told to place clorine tabs over the stains and let them bleach
them out.
How long do I leave them?
should I put in 6 or […]

Chlorine shock

October 18th, 2003 · 5 Comments

(Calcium hypochlorate)
Does this stuff raise the amount of chlorine in the water in the same
way as regular granules? Or does it decline much faster after the
initial ’shock’?
Thanks
Nick

UK owners - where do you buy chemicals?

October 17th, 2003 · No Comments

I think my local pool shop may be a bit expensive. Was just wondering
if there is a mail order firm that would do them a bit cheaper. For
instance, 5 litres of calcium hpyochlorate shock is 28 pounds.

Pool Vacuum

October 15th, 2003 · 2 Comments

THE number one culprit for lost suction is the O-ring on the pump lid. You
should clean and lube it every time you take it off and replace it if it
starts to get hard, flat or crack. Do not use a petroleum based lube. Use
silicone based lube. The reason for the lube and […]

IG Pool Light Not Working

October 11th, 2003 · No Comments

An Amerlite model is for IG pools so this I suspect is what you have.
Between the power company and that bulb you generally have a circuit breaker
should be GFI, and on/off switch, a junction box where the light is wired to
the feed from the breaker box. Best thing to do is start at the switch…is
there […]

Testing kits

October 6th, 2003 · 3 Comments

I have a water testing kit with no instructions. It has two sides: pH
(phenol red tablets) and Cl (DPD tablets).
The pH side is fine, the tab dissolves instantly and my water is
about right (7.4-7.6).
However, the DPD tab takes forever to dissolve and shows a low
chlorine content BUT if I leave it for a few hours […]
